The A.A. (anti-aircraft) guns that we had taken to France were 1918 vintage 18 pounders mounted on a modern chassis. After a pleasant stay in Aberystwith, we recouperated and our losses in men were made up to full strength. We again mobilised and were issued with 3.7 A.A. guns and being mobile, we served in London during the "Battle Of Britain" - Coventry during its blitzing - also Hull and Wolverhampton.

I received a further letter telling me to report back to the factory, but we were now preparing for overseas and the Colonel refused to release me. I personally felt that I could not experience anything worse than Dunkirk so I had just as well soldier on. Tropical kit issue was carried out in the usual army fashion, you received one of each item irrespective of your height or size. We then paraded in a large park, much to the amusement of the local population.
